Catalonia to Pilot Blockchain Identity Solution

Barcelona —  The autonomous community of Catalonia is preparing a blockchain identity solution to be ready by January of 2020. The Spanish area which consists of Barcelona, Girona, Lleida, and Tarragona, with a population of 7.5 million people. The identity system, IdentiCAT, will be the first in the region. While the network will be supported technically by the local government, officials will not be able to access any of the information on the blockchain. Specifically the government has stated “The ‘IdentiCAT’ will be the first digital identity at European level, which will be driven by the public sphere and managed by citizens themselves with the aim of becoming standard use in Catalonia.”
